GSC has family-friendly cinema halls
Hunting out family-friendly, fun activities in Malaysia that let us stay out of the sun can be a difficult task. Sure, our favourite shopping malls may seem ideal for a day out with the fam, but the kiddos aren’t able to play and roam freely as they can at more kid-friendly places like playgrounds.
Thankfully, there are places such as Golden Screen Cinemas’ (GSC) family-friendly PlayPlus cinema halls. The popular cinema chain now features these halls in several locations across Malaysia, including in Johor Bahru and Puchong. Here, parents can catch the latest flicks while their little ones explore slides and toys – plus there’s a lounge area too.

It’s always nice to bring the whole family out for a movie. But going to the cinemas with kids can quickly go downhill, as most young children can’t sit still for two whole hours and just want to play freely. Bringing together movies and an indoor playground is GSC’s PlayPlus halls, which cater to parents who love movies but don’t want to leave their kids out.

These family-friendly cinema halls each boast play structures such as a tube slide that shoots you right into a ball pit, and spring rockers shaped like fun animals, so kiddos can have some thrills once they start feeling bored with the screen.
As the halls are illuminated – the lights are only dimmed slightly throughout the screening of the movie – parents need not worry about potential injuries that might occur if their kids were to play in the dark. Audio volumes are also slightly lowered to reduce sensory overload that might be uncomfortable for toddlers.

The halls also feature colourful Cuddle Couches that accommodate two adults and two kids, so you’ll be able to snuggle comfortably as a family while enjoying movies on the big screen. Plush Bean Bags are also available for a parent and their child, with tickets priced from RM13/child and RM23.50/adult.

The family-friendly experience is not just limited to these dedicated cinema halls.
There’s also a lounge area at GSC locations with PlayPlus halls, which has facilities to suit the needs of kids and parents alike. If you arrive ahead of time for your movie, you can spend time here with your kids to check out an open play area that has fun visual tools and playing sets to excite them.

If your kid enjoys sticking their nose in books, bring them over to the reading area where they can browse a selection of children’s books and plop down on comfy seats to go through their finds.

Parents with toddlers will find the nursing rooms with baby-changing diaper stations to be extremely useful. These rooms have lactation seats and a private nursing area, and are both clean and quiet to accommodate mums with infants.
