Paradigm Mall JB Reassures Shoppers Of Security Measures After Alleged Stalking Incidents

Over the past couple of weeks, several women took to Facebook to share about the stalking incidents they allegedly faced while shopping alone at Paradigm Mall in JB. This raised concerns for many people as public safety and security are of utmost importance.

On 8th March, Paradigm Mall’s management released a statement on their Facebook page detailing strict security measures carried out at their mall – and various ways shoppers can seek help if they find themselves in unsafe situations – to assure patrons of their safety while shopping.

In the same post, they wished women a Happy International Women’s Day and highlighted several security measures currently carried out by the mall. This includes having security guards both in uniform and plain clothes on patrol, and active monitoring of their spaces via their security systems, in both their mall’s spaces and car parks.

Panic buttons located on pillars painted red for easy identification are also available for shoppers to push, if they were to find themselves in an unsafe situation. The word “HELP”, painted in uppercase on the pillars, also help car park users spot these panic buttons easily. With the push of the button, the mall’s guards – who are commonly found on segways for speedy responses – will be alerted.

There’s also a police post, marked by the words “Pos Polis”, found at the mall’s entrance.

While Paradigm JB did not cite the recent alleged stalking incidents that netizens have shared on the Internet as the cause of their post, the statement did note that they plan to ramp up the number of security guards and the frequency of the patrols “for the peace of mind of all patrons”.

The statement by the mall also urges shoppers to “report activities that they deem to be suspicious”. They can do so in these 3 ways:

1. Via the Concierge at Level UG (in front of Caring Pharmacy)
2. Call their 24-hour security hotline at 07-231 3999, or
3. Alert their security guards

Stories of individuals being followed by strangers in broad daylight in public spaces such as malls come a shock to many, as its not uncommon for shoppers to shop alone in places that are typically deemed safe. But when they do crop up, they, nonetheless, serve as a reminder for institutions to review their security practices and for individuals to remain vigilant.

So we applaud Paradigm Mall and the mall’s management team for swiftly taking into account the concerns of their shoppers, and implementing additional security measures for their patrons’ safety.
