Malaysian actress shares family’s Covid-19 struggle

As Malaysia continues to battle with the Covid-19 pandemic, we have heard many stories of how people struggle to cope in their day to day lives during this difficult time. It is true that the virus spares no one and everyone who tested positive has to go through the same fate as our healthcare system is continued to be weakened by the surging number of cases.

Such is the case for actress Sherie Merlis who has become the talk of the town after recently sharing her family’s struggle to receive medical support for Covid-19 from the health ministry.

Yesterday, 22nd August 2021, actress Sherie Merlis took to Instagram to express her worries and concern after the delay in service from the health ministry for her breastfeeding sister who had tested positive for Covid-19. In a 5-minute-long video, she pleaded for help from her social media followers to find medical support to help quarantine her sister and her 10-months old baby.

Sherie began the video by mentioning that she and her kids were trapped in her sister’s house after her sister had tested positive for Covid-19 along with her ill elderly parents. She shared that after the results of a swab test at a government clinic, her sister had been told to self-quarantine at home by the health ministry.

However, the house which has only 2 rooms was fully occupied during the incident. Besides Sherie, her two kids and her parents, her sister’s husband and their three kids were also staying in the house.

Sherie shared her struggle that the health ministry had informed her to wait until the following Monday, which is today, 23rd August 2021, before they could act on the situation. In the video, she also mentioned that her sister’s husband and their 4-year-old child were already showing Covid-19 symptoms shortly after the mother’s return from the clinic.

Sherie’s video has since gone viral on Instagram garnering over 150,000 views from Malaysians. Thankfully, her agony and call for help were heard by netizen @nafidzrazak from the Megaklinik Zahran, a local private clinic headquartered in Bangi, Selangor.

Harian Metro reported that @nafidzrazak‘s team rushed to Sherie’s aid, ensuring that everyone in the house underwent a swab test and are closely monitored for symptoms. Her sister, her husband, and their children who had tested positive have been taken to a quarantine centre and are being treated accordingly.

Sherie shared another video on her Instagram account earlier today thanking everyone who had helped her with her crisis. She says she’s truly grateful for her followers, netizen @nafidzrazak and his team members and her friend @fizzfairuzofficial for their promptness in helping her. The family is now doing okay and everything is reported to be under control.

We’re glad to know that Sherie managed to get prompt medical help after sharing her struggle on social media.

While it’s indeed a relief, we’ll like to remind all Malaysians to take care of their loved ones during this difficult time as not everyone will be lucky enough to receive immediate medical attention as our healthcare facilities are currently overloaded. We hope Malaysians can continue to observe all SOPs and be on the lookout for those who are struggling to get help.
