The Listening Lounge at eslite spectrum
It’s hard to sell Kuala Lumpur’s Bukit Bintang as being calm. It’s almost anything but, with four shopping malls crammed in one area and pedestrians scurrying back and forth across crosswalks that connect them.
But there happens to be The Listening Lounge here that’s undiscovered by most.
Unlike most listening lounges that we know of with vinyls spinning on record players, this lounge found inside eslite spectrum lets you listen to tunes on MP3 and CD players like it’s the 2000s all over again.
What is The Listening Lounge?
Just like it sounds, The Listening Lounge at eslite spectrum inside The Starhill is a new space for anyone who wants to hit pause between shopping and eating to enjoy a book, a cuppa, and old-school music players.

A corner of the lifestyle and creative hub, which also covers eslite bookstore, has been turned into a retro lounge with various seating arrangements. It’s not massive by any means, but that’s the goal here: an intimate space for people to escape the chaos outside for a bit with music played over devices from the past.

There are MP3, CD, and even cassette players here to play hit tunes from the ’80s to the 2000s – we’re talking ABBA to Beyoncé – through your own headphones or wired ones provided by the store.
How to experience The Listening Lounge?
Access to The Listening Lounge and its analogue music devices is free. You’ll just need to buy an item or order food from either eslite spectrum or eslite bookstore, and show the same-day receipt to borrow a listening asset and earphones from the staff at the counter.

Once you’ve gotten your analogue or digital player of choice, pick a seat and select CDs or cassettes to listen to from the lounge’s collection, or simply scroll through the music catalogue if you opt for the MP3 player instead.
Once you’ve settled on an album, sit back and enjoy the charming clips and hisses from a winding cassette or clear and crisp audio from the CD or MP3 track.
Each listening session is capped at 2 hours, with general house rules like caring for the devices, keeping voices low in the lounge, and leaving food and drinks outside the door to heed.
