15,573 new Covid-19 cases in Malaysia
Malaysia has been recording 5-digit case numbers in the past week and a half, showing that concern over Covid-19 is still not yet over in the country.
While previous days have already seen worrisome daily counts, today marks a new record high, with 15,573 new nationwide Covid-19 cases reported on 23rd July 2021.
Nearly 10,000 cases in KL and Selangor
Of the total daily cases recorded today, Selangor reported the highest number of daily cases in a state nationwide, with a total of 7,672 new cases. Following after is Kuala Lumpur, with another staggering total of 2,063 cases recorded.
Kedah (937), Johor (722), Negeri Sembilan (682), and Penang (530) also recorded high daily cases.
Perlis (3), Labuan (21) and Putrajaya (41) are the only areas in Malaysia with new daily cases falling below the 100s.

Today’s daily cases form the highest daily count in the country since the start of the pandemic. It’s also an increase of 2,000 cases compared to yesterday’s daily count of 13,034.
The addition of 15,573 new cases today puts the country’s total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases at 980,491 to date – less than 20,000 shy of a million.

Update: Today also sees a small win, with 10,094 recovered cases in the country, for a total of 825,387 (84.18%) total recovered cases, as reported by KKM.
Of today’s daily count, 15,541 are local cases while 32 were import cases.
144 new deaths puts the total number of people who died of complications from Covid-19 at 7,718.
There are currently 930 cases in the ICU, and 147,386 active cases.
As of 22nd July, 33.4%, or over 10,900,000 million individuals, have received their first vaccine dose. Another 5,100,000, or 15.6%, are now fully vaccinated with two vaccine doses received. In total, 16,024,916 individuals have received their first and second vaccine dose.

15,573 new Covid-19 cases on 23rd July marks a new record high
Areas in Klang Valley recently came out of EMCO on 16th July.
But with the latest daily counts surpassing the 15,000 mark – a new high for the country – and nearly 10,000 cases in Klang Valley alone, we must continue to follow safety measures and limit our outdoor excursions at this time.
