Either way, most of us just want to steer clear of dealing with the sticky feeling from heavy downpours and sweaty pits from the blistering heat. Luckily for us, there are plenty of exciting indoor activities in and around KL that let you have just as much fun as you would in the outdoors.

1. Go go-karting inside a mall with Formula Karting


Strand Mall remains a favourite haunt for locals looking to avoid the crowds while shopping for essentials. Not known to many is an adrenaline-pumping activity that takes place on the 5th floor of the mall. This is none other than Formula Karting, which hosts go-kart races here.

This go-karting spot is tucked away in the carpark, featuring a 500m-track that includes 22 technical turns. Each race can accommodate 10 go-karts at once, so adventurous squads can have their own F1 race on the track.

There are two race options here: the beginner-friendly, 10-minute Open Session (RM60/pax) and the group-friendly Grand Prix (from RM160/pax). Each session starts with a briefing, and safety gear such as a helmet, gloves, and balaclava are provided.

2. Swing & climb from tree to tree at TreeTop Adventure

The rain won’t put a dent in your outdoor adventure at TreeTop Adventure in 1 Utama Shopping Centre. Tucked within the Rainforest Section of the mall, this rope obstacle course park spans over 4,000 sq ft and is open to visitors of all ages.

 Adventurous souls can spend time in nature here, swinging and climbing from tree to tree.

The park is divided into two sections. For the grownups, there’s a two-storey course featuring 11 obstacles like ziplines and suspended bridges, each varied in difficulty levels. Meanwhile, the kiddos have a dedicated section to explore, which has been designed for children aged 12 and below.

Roller-skating has only recently become a popular activity among locals. The hip roller-skating rinks that have been cropping up at our malls include Roller Light at Wangsa Walk Mall. With an indoor rink glowing with neon yellows, pinks and blues, you’ll feel like you’re on a disco floor while taking laps on it.

Beginners are welcomed – the little ones included – with trained staff on the rink ready to assist you. Admissions are priced RM35/pax, with student rates available and skates for rent at the Skate Shoe Zone.

Whether you’re a pro or newbie gamer looking to dive into the world of virtual reality, look no further than VAR LIVE. This 4DVR arcade has several outlets across Asia, including one at MyTOWN Shopping Centre that lets you immerse yourself in 12 different realistic virtual worlds, ranging from kid-friendly ones like Baby Shark VR Dancing to the horror-fest Zombie Way.

5. Get blasted with paint bombs at Bomb Battle

You might have heard of splatter art, where you flick and shoot paint at a blank canvas to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. At Bomb Battle at Berjaya Times Square, they blended an escape room experience with paint bombs – you’ll have to figure your way out of a pickle with the threat of getting blasted with paint if you don’t.

Team up with 4-8 friends for an epic paint-soaked experience, with five different missions to complete. Upon arrival, you’ll be given a coverall suit to wear while you dodge lasers, crack memory codes, and defuse ticking paint bombs in a heart-pounding 75-minute mission.

Tickets to Bomb Battle are priced at RM89/pax on weekdays and RM99/pax on weekends. It includes professional videos and photos taken by the staff, which you can share straight to your social media.

6. Unleash your inner Hulk at Party Box 360’s Rage Room

Dubbed as Malaysia’s largest game hub, Party Box 360 at LaLaport BBCC is an entertainment spot boasting five different zones with a plethora of activities to explore. At the Versus Hall, you can feel like a participant in a Korean variety show – think Running Man – with its 32 games such as Sumo Boxing, where players don a yellow sumo costume and aim to conquer each other.

Meanwhile, at the Rage Room, you can unleash your inner Hulk by selecting your “weapon” of choice and smashing everything – from glass bottles to chairs – to bits in the room, while your favourite tunes play in the background.

7. Explore the largest edutainment theme park in Malaysia, NextGen

NextGen is Malaysia’s largest entertainment and education indoor theme park, spanning 45,000 square feet of space in 1 Utama. This family-friendly spot features family-friendly attractions, including a Kid’s Playground and Play City, both imaginative spaces for the young’uns.

For the young at heart, check out the Sky Playground with its fun rainbow-coloured slides and the Arcade Zone that’ll have you feeling like a child again. There’s also an Engagement Zone with trampolines next to a velcro wall and even a rock climbing wall.

8. Play old-school Nintendo 64 at KL’s largest gaming centre, ATO

ATO Gaming Cafe doubles as both a hip cafe and gaming centre. Dubbed the largest gaming centre in KL, this spot has a dining area situated just next to a gaming zone lined with console games. You can challenge your pals to Mario Kart on Nintendo 64, Fortnite and Fall Guys on PS5, Mario Party on Nintendo Switch, and more.

9. Go ice-skating & experience snowfall at Blue Ice Skating Rink

For a chill day out, glide your way over to Blue Ice Skating Rink, which has several locations in the Klang Valley area including KL East Mall, 163 Retail Park, and Pavilion Bukit Jalil. Their vast rinks accommodate first-timers and pros, with rental skate bobby (RM30/session) available for the grownups and kiddos who need help with balance. 

At their Pavilion Bukit Jalil outlet, you’ll even find a Snow Park complete with fresh snow, sledding, and playground features set in a winter wonderland. Entry to this park will set you back an additional RM60/pax – while slightly pricey, it’s not every day you get to experience snowfall in Malaysia.

A spin on the rink will cost you RM40/pax, which comes with free skate rentals. Each session runs for 2 hours, and is recommended that you bring along your own socks and gloves. If not, you can rent them for RM7 per pair.

10. Bounce your stress away at Jump Street

If you’re looking to bounce your stress and calories away, head to Jump Street in Seksyen 13, PJ. This bouncing haven spans over 10,000 square feet, boasting features and zones such as dodgeball courts, trampoline basketball lanes, vertical running walls, and a kids-only The Cage court.

At the main court, there are six Olympic-spec interconnected trampolines, allowing you to leap from mat to wall – you can unleash parkour moves you never knew you had in you.

2 hours of jumping costs RM45/pax, but if you would like to spend a longer time here, there are all-day tickets for RM65/pax. You’ll be provided with complimentary bottled water to quench your thirst during your time here.
