The Gundam Base at Fahrenheit88
There’s another reason for Gundam hobbyists to start clearing space on their shelves for, yes, more models of their favourite characters.
Gundam’s first flagship store, The Gundam Base, has opened in Malaysia at Fahrenheit88, bringing with it limited-edition Gunpla and Gundam–building workshops that are beginner- and kid-friendly to Kuala Lumpur.
What is The Gundam Base?
No need to book a flight to Japan to shop for an array of Gunpla models now that The Gundam Base is in KL. It’s basically a one-stop shop for all things Gundam. Shelves are stocked with build-it-yourself model kits called Gunpla, which are based on characters in the franchise that spans manga, anime, and video games.
Hobbyists will also find accessories and tools to help with building Gunpla models.
In 2025, the mecha model franchise opened a pop-up at Incubase Arena, also in Fahrenheit88, before it launched a flagship store in Malaysia a year later. The Malaysian store marks the third official store in Southeast Asia, following ones in Bangkok and Singapore.
What to expect at The Gundam Base in KL
The Gundam Base flagship store in Malaysia carries over 200 model kits, in six Gundam grades: Super Deformed (SD), Entry Grade (EG), High Grade (HG), Real Grade (RG), Master Grade (MG), and Perfect Grade (PG).
For the uninitiated, these grades denote the scale, detail, and build complexity of each model. SD to HG models are typically considered easy builds that are beginner-friendly, while the RG to PG range is more popular among adults and hobbyists due to the intricate frames and moving parts that come with the kits.
Beyond shopping for the popular kits and safer bets, the store also carries four Japan-exclusive model kits that are being released in Malaysia for the first time: the RX-78-2 Gundam Ver 3.0 (RM225), Gundam Barbatos (Clear Colour) (RM203), Destiny Gundam (Heine Westenfluss Custom) (RM293), and Burning Gundam Hyper Mode (RM675).
If you’re a newbie builder just getting into the world of Gunpla, The Gundam Base also has a dedicated space that conducts a free model-building workshop that goes through all the 101s, including how to construct and piece together the moving parts of the model. After the session, you can take your completed model home.
Workshops will kick off from 20th April, with two sessions held daily: 12pm-3pm and 5pm-8pm.
The Gundam Base in Malaysia also has photo spots, including a 1.8m-tall RX-78-2 statue that greets patrons at the entrance in blue and white, to match the colours of the store. At a corner of the store, Gundam fans can pose as Gunpla models against a wall that looks like a blueprint.

Whether you’re a long-time enthusiast or a recent novice of the mecha model building hobby, it’s nice to know that you don’t need to book a flight to Japan to get your hands on the latest models when there’s an official store in the heart of KL. So, plan a visit to this playground for Gundam fans, whether it’s to get a new Gunpla or join a workshop.
