1. Putrajaya Challenge Park – trapezoid wall & kid-friendly zone

For rock climbing enthusiasts eager to elevate their climbing skills, Putrajaya Challenge Park is a 2,100sqft indoor climbing gym with a trapezoidal wall that stretches 42m-wide and soars 20m-tall – to put this into perspective, you’ll feel like you’re scaling a 5-storey building.

The climbing wall is separated into five zones catering from beginner top-roping to intermediate bouldering. There are also walls suitable for the kiddos to explore at the dedicated kid-friendly zone equipped with padded flooring.

Entrance fee to the climbing gym at Putrajaya Challenge Park is priced at RM6/adult and RM3/child. Instructors will be around to guide climbers, with climbing ropes (RM15) and harnesses (RM5) also available. 

Do note that while the gym opens daily, they close on every first and third Mondays of the month.

2. BUMP Bouldering – range of facilities like a yoga studio & cafe

Located at Jaya One, BUMP Bouldering is hailed by their patrons for their extensive climbing walls. There’s the Moonboard, a 40° degree training board featuring thousands of hard boulders, and a Campus Board with a range of rungs. 

Beginners and pros are welcomed, with colour-coded dots on the walls to identify the different routes that require skills such as strength and balance – this will make it easy for all to climb.

After you’ve tackled the walls, you can check out their other facilities, including a gym equipped with monkey bars and weights, as well as a yoga studio, lounge, cafe, changing rooms and showers.

Depending on how often you plan to visit, the gym has 1-Day Passes (RM36) to monthly Memberships (RM185) with unlimited access to their facilities. They’ve also got you covered for shoes (RM7) and chalk (RM10).

3. Gua Damai Extreme Park – climb on natural rocks with over 100 bolted routes

Batu Caves might be best known for Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple that draws flocks of locals and tourists all-year round. But not many might know that a daredevil activity awaits thrillseekers just behind the cave that houses the iconic temple. 

We’re talking about climbing up the limestone crags of the Gua Damai mountain. If you want to experience this, Gua Damai Extreme Park offers guided climbing packages here – abseiling (RM90/pax) and rocking climbing (RM140/pax) included. 

All packages are inclusive of gear, safety equipment, and refreshments.

The natural rock climb here has more than 100 bolted routes of varying difficulty levels. For the uninitiated, bolted routes have anchors drilled into the crags for climbers to clip their dynamic ropes and quickdraws to while climbing. Each route has about 1-3 pitches.

If you’re already familiar with lead climbing and topping out, you can bring along your own gear and tackle the routes on your own. There’ll be a small entry fee of RM5 for Malaysians and RM10 for standard tickets required.

4. Bolder Ventures – puzzle-like bouldering routes

Bolder Venture is a relatively new gym, having only opened back in 2021. While they don’t have as large a space as the other spots on this list, their quality and challenging puzzle-like bouldering routes with different grades are highly recommended by their patrons. 

They also regularly reset their walls with new routes, so you’ll have a new challenge to solve with each visit here. The gym’s well-designed space is worth a mention too – it takes inspiration from Japanese climbing gyms with its dark-wood panels and minimalist angles.

For beginners, it’s recommended to go with the 1-hour Guided Pass (RM55/adult) that includes entrance fee, shoes, harness, and chalk bag, as well as an instructor on hand. During the session, you can opt to top rope or bouldering, or try a bit of both. 

If you’re a seasoned climber just looking for a new adventure, opt for a Day Pass (RM25/adult) instead for access to their facilities. Do note that you’ll have to bring along your own gear.

5. Rocky BaseCamp – themed climbing walls

A climbing gym that literally takes walls to new heights is Rocky BaseCamp. Tucked inside Aeon Mall in Shah Alam, this family-friendly spot boasts four colourful and themed walls.

Climbers can ascend the Petronas Twin Towers wall or embark on the Snake & Ladder-themed wall that are just as much fun as they look. Another highlight here is the towering 15m-tall Indoor Speed Climbing Wall, that’s suitable for both grown-ups and kids.

6. Camp5 Climbing Gym – tallest indoor climbing wall in Malaysia

Camp5 Climbing Gym has five outlets scattered across Klang Valley, as well as one in Johor, with each featuring a climbing wall unique to the location. For starters, their 1 Utama Shopping Centre flagship outlet has a 20m Prowall dubbed Malaysia’s tallest indoor climbing wall that’s popular among top-rope and lead climbers. 

Whereas, the Eco City outlet is their largest yet, featuring a freestanding top out boulder and 33 top-ropes and 12 lead lanes. For the uninitiated, a top out wall requires climbers to go beyond scaling a wall, with a course completed only when they’re over the wall and at the top.

First-timers can go for the 1-hour guided climb for RM55/pax, which accommodates climbers as young as 5 years old. The session begins with a warm-up followed by climbing from easier to harder walls. Else, 1-day passes with multiple entries allowed are priced from RM13.50.

More serious climbers can opt for the Multigym Membership, from RM278 for 3 months, which lets you explore all their outlets.

You can rent essential gear such as harness (RM5), shoes (RM7), and ropes (RM50/day), with safety helmets also available to use for free. Do note that kids under 8 will have to be accompanied by an adult.

7. Jumpa – an all-in-one indoor activity park

Nestled in Sungei Wang Plaza, Beast Park by Camp5 is an adrenaline-fueled indoor activity park that caters to the bold and brave. They have all sorts of fun zones with obstacle courses – including the Ninja Beast with nine obstacles that’ll have you jumping over hurdles and hanging from rope swings, and the kid-friendly Play Like A Beast that features easy boulder walls. 

But for climbing- and bouldering-focused zones, head to Jumpa inside Beast Park. It has a total wall area of 978sqm, comprising 33 top rope anchor routes, regularly changing boulder routes, auto-belay walls, and a 15m lead wall.

A guided climbing session is priced at RM55, which comes with a 1-hour climbing experience and gear rental. There’s also the Basic Wall Course (RM150) – a 4-hour session that includes training and a longer time to spend climbing the walls.

8. Mir Adventures – outdoors rock climbing with a rewarding viewpoint

If you’re looking for a curated adventure outdoors, look no further than Mir Adventures. Founded by a team of passionate climbers, they have full guided tours that let you climb up the 300m-high Bukit Takun with its granite and limestone surface in Rawang.

The climb is beginner-friendly while still thrilling for seasoned climbers. The tour starts at 8am, beginning with a relatively easy climb up to the 10m mark. From here, it gets pretty challenging – you’ll have to scramble over rocks, slopes, and ledges up to the top of the crag that’s about 50m above ground. 

But a viewpoint awaits you at the end of your climb, which overlooks majestic pinnacles.

9. MadMonkeyz Climbing Gym – an adjustable inclined wall

MadMonkeyz Climbing Gym has been around for decades. This bouldering gym has loyal patrons who praise their attentive instructors and well-equipped facilities despite their smaller area space. 

They have over 2,000 holds, preset routes, and a campus board. For advanced climbers, the gym also has a special inclined wall that can be adjusted at various degrees for more challenging climbs, and an overhang wall for you to dangle like a, well, monkey.

Whether you’re a pint-sized adventurer or a grown-up thrillseeker, you can grab a day pass for RM20. For regulars, there are monthly passes for RM98. 10. ESCAPE Challenge Park – unique climbing obstacles

Challenge yourself to a new set of climbing routes at ESCAPE Challenge Park at Paradigm Mall PJ, which offers an unconventional climbing experience among its various obstacle courses.

There’s the Coco Climb obstacle, where thrillseekers will have to ascend a tree with their bare hands and legs. But fret not if you’re trying this for the first time, as your climb will be guided by professional staff. There’s also the Gecko Tower that’ll have you climbing a replica of a 1950s Old Malaya building facade. You’ll be strapped to a belay line for safety purposes.

Tickets to ESCAPE Challenge Park are priced RM90+ for adults and RM63+ for children aged 4-12. The fee gives you access to all obstacles at the activity park.
