Take in festive Raya decor at Sunway Putra Mall
Malaysians love their malls. As festivities approach, we’re extra excited to visit our fave lepak spots that’ll be decked out with dazzling lights and stunning decor to put us in the festive mood. Â
With Hari Raya just a few sleeps away, Sunway Putra Mall is bringing balik kampung vibes to its premise from now till 8th May 2022. Explore a pink-and-blue kampung house for photo op seshs with the fam, or take part in a bulan art ‘treasure hunt’ to win Sunway Lagoon annual passes.
Here’s what else shoppers can expect this Raya.Â
Live performances for weekend fun with the fam
Sunway Putra Mall patrons can look forward to exploring the mall’s Main Concourse area on the Ground Floor that’s been decorated with a Ruih Ria Raya theme in mind. Here, a traditional kampung house with pastel palm tree motifs on its roof is the showstopper.Â
The house is the backdrop of Riang Ria performances – including live band, angklung, and silat performances. Shoppers can take a break from their Raya hauls to catch these shows at 2.30PM or 4.30PM, happening every weekend and on public holidays up till 8th May.Â
Check out the full list of performances and times here.Â
Not merely a fancy facade, the kampung house has nostalgic vintage furnishings, including an elaborate rattan chair and old-school radio. So drop by to check it out for nostalgic photo op sessions with the whole fam.
Explore crescent-shaped art displays by local artists
Most malls focus mainly on creating cool settings in the main concourse for festivities.Â
Sunway Putra mall has teamed up with several talented local artists to add unique and colourful artworks throughout their premise this Raya.
Two artists on the autism spectrum, Izzati Shahrin and Haziq Izmi from local art collective Nakseni, have hand-painted seven crescent-shaped displays for the mall, called BulanArts.Â
These uniquely shaped art displays, featuring flora and fauna designs, can be found on different floors in the mall.
Do keep your eyes peeled for these artworks while you’re shopping, as you might stand a chance to win two Sunway Lagoon Annual Passes, worth RM488/each, when you spot them.
What you’ll have to do is:
- hunt for three BulanArts displays in the mall
- snap a selfie with each oneÂ
- upload your photos to your Facebook or Instagram account
- tag three friends and the hashtags #RuihRiaRaya, #SunwayPutraMall, and #SPMBulanArts in your post
- fill your details in this online form
Take part in cultural craft seshsÂ
To celebrate Raya this year, Sunway Putra Mall is also hosting free Raya DIY Crafts sessions.Â
You’ll have to make your way up to the 4th Floor of the mall to take part in these family-fun activities. The quieter space allows you to focus while trying your hand at traditional crafts including wayang kulit, ketupat, batik, and wau bulan.Â
These workshops take place on the weekends and selected public holidays up till 8th May, at 3.15PM and 5.15PM.
Shop local for baju Raya, cookies and more
Besides the centrepiece kampung house and live performances, the mall is also hosting local businesses at booths in their Bazaar Lebaran. These booths are spread out around the Main Concourse area, and on the 2nd floor of the mall. Â
Shop for last-minute baju Raya with Salikin Sidek or Raya snacks such as pineapple tarts from Biscopia while you’re here.
Redeem shopping vouchers and Raya packets till 8th May
Malaysians always anticipate over-the-top decorations at malls whenever festivities roll around. With the pandemic previously halting all sorts of celebrations, we can’t help but be gleeful as we are able to fully soak up all the fun at malls again.
With Sunway Putra Mall’s slew of Raya festivities, you can support local businesses and artists, and stand a chance to win vouchers and other freebies when you’re shopping here.
Spend RM250 or above in a max combination of two receipts to redeem a set of Raya Packets with floral designs by local graffiti artist Abdulrashade. Likewise, spend over RM500 in three combined receipts to win a RM50 Sunway eMall voucher and a set of floral print coasters.Â
Inside the kampung house, you can browse for Sunway eMall offerings – from furnishings to household appliances – to spend your shopping voucher on.
To redeem a casserole serving pot, available in pastel pink or dark green, spend RM1,500 in five receipts.
With Raya just around the corner, fun activities to participate in, and vouchers and theme park passes are up for grabs, there’s no better time than now to visit Sunway Putra Mall.
