Free coffee & shelter for those stuck in floods

In the past few months, Malaysia has been pummelled by heavy downpours causing widespread floods. The erratic weather has uprooted homes and disrupted daily lives – even so, affected Malaysians remain willing to help out in meaningful ways, such as this man on crutches who helped pick up trash on a flooded road.

Likewise, a business owner in KL stepped in to offer respite to those affected by the floods in the city on Monday. They graciously opened up their office space as a temporary shelter and offered warm coffee to anyone who was unable to head home due to the flood and heavy traffic.

A space to wait out the floods and rain

The owner of The Milkfish Lady, a local business that sells fishing equipment and provides fishing tours, posted a considerate tweet on Monday, 7th March 2022.

In the tweet, Shamin Shaimah wrote that her office was open to anyone who was stuck in KL due to the recent flash floods in the city. Suggesting that it was a less lonely way to wait out the floods, she welcomed those affected to drop by her office located in Wisma Central for a warm cup of coffee.

Her tweet went viral quickly, with many having queries on the location and nature of her office, to which she patiently replied to them. Some asked if she worked at a coffee shop as she was graciously offering free coffee, but she shared that she simply operated a small business.
