Open Air Cinema by MIFFest at MyTown

Air-conditioned cinema halls are great and all, but nothing beats the magic of watching movies under the night sky – and all for free at that. That’s what you can do this July, from 19th to 25th July 2026.

The Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) returns for its 9th edition, along with its Open Air Cinema schedule, which will host free movie screenings at MyTOWN Shopping Centre.

Here’s the full movie lineup and schedule:

What are the movie screenings for?

MIFFest is an annual independent film festival that brings movie screenings, workshops, and panel discussions centred around the cinema to movie buffs in Malaysia. This year marks its 9th edition, which runs from 18th to 25th July.

Among its list of programmes, there’s Open Air Cinema. It hosts screenings of Malaysian-made films in a public space for everyone to celebrate local and international independent filmmakers. To catch a screening, all you have to do is show up, grab a seat, and enjoy the movie.

This year, the public screenings are held once again at MyTOWN’s Sunken Garden. If you’ve not yet explored this space, it’s a semi-covered event pavilion that is accessible from the mall’s Basement 1 level, through doors next to the McDonald’s outlet there.

A projector is set up outdoors, with step seating for anyone coming by to watch a film. Feel free to buy food at the mall, and munch on it while watching a movie being screened for the night.

What movies can I watch?

Seven locally loved movies, as well as short films, will be screened for the Open Air Cinema.

Movie buffs and anyone looking to just deep dive into the local film scene can explore movie genres ranging from gripping action films to spine-tingling horrors and heartwarming dramas.
