Online classes aren’t a new thing for Malaysian students. Not too long ago, during the MCO, students had a taste of this new classroom set-up to help curb the spread of COVID-19. This led to some pretty hilarious and relatable stories from Malaysian students experiencing it all for the first time. But for pet owners having their furkids roaming around while attending online classes present a whole new set of struggles. With classes back online again for higher learning institutions because of the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, Malaysian students are sharing their relatable struggles with photos of their manja cats kacau-ing them in the most adorable, albeit disruptive, ways.

Felines stay by their owners’ side through thick and thin

This relatable struggle was brought up by Malaysian netizen, @_tnaisyarzna, who took to her Twitter account on 20th October 2020 to share photos of what her cat had done. While in an online classroom of 25 people, a cryptic message from her made up of numbers, letters, and punctuation marks popped up in the group chat.

Turns out, her cat decided to join in on class discussion by stepping on her laptop’s keyboard. In a photo she shared of what had happened while in class, she wrote, “This is my challenge while [working] at home.”

The second photo that followed showed the behind-the-scenes action of what took place – her cuddly, black-and-white furkid resting in front of her laptop with its head hovering close to the keyboard.

But showing that Malaysians have a good sense of humour, another user @thesturlitez, who was also in the classroom, tweeted the teacher’s lighthearted response to the message: “Nevermind, the cat also wants to learn translation too”.

Other cat owners share their struggles

Twitter user @_tnaisyarzna‘s hilarious story garnered a whole slew of responses from cat owners currently attending online classes and working from home, all who had similar tales to tell. This included netizen @eliyafarhana, who tweeted, “He wants to join too”, along with a photo of her adorable kitten dangerously shy from making an appearance on a busy Zoom call.

Another netizen @saidatulsofiaa showed a situation that those with manja pet cats are all too familiar with – her cat resting on the laptop keyboard with its eyes closed and an open Word document with the same letters being typed repeatedly from unintentionally pressed keys. Hilariously tweeting in the perspective of her cat, she captioned the photo, “Done 1 page. Now I can nap”.

Those who are often on video calls for meetings or classes can probably relate to @surayazhar_’s incident with her cat too. Many of us opt to mute ourselves while in a video meeting with a large group of people – but unfortunately for her, her cat decided to unmute her.

With many now on a work-from-home directive as of 22nd October to continue to curb the spread of COVID-19, Twitter user, @_MisfitGhoul, who is working from home, also had a similar photo to share. His cat could be seen stretched out next to his laptop with its legs blocking access to a good part of the keyboard while he was trying to get work done.

**Netizens offer solutions for manja cat problems**

Those who aren’t pet owners also had fun scrolling through the Twitter thread, which was mainly filled with cat owners sharing photos of their furkids. Many had funny quips to the relatable scene, including Twitter user @eliawrdina, who tweeted, “This radiates the same energy as my pet ate my homework”.

Some netizens also had helpful remedies to the situation, with @msnbmbh tweeting, “Need to buy this to be safe” along with a picture of a monitor stand priced at RM90.90 – to be place above the keyboard, to prevent your furkids from stepping on the keyboard. We admit, it’s a pretty neat way to keep your pets at a close, yet safe, distance if not for its steep price. But desperate times call for desperate measures.

No doubt, it’s been difficult for Malaysian students who cannot attend classes physically and see their classmates in person, with COVID-19 still a cause for concern. So we’re glad to see them keeping their chins up and sharing relatable struggles with their manja cats teman-ing them at this time – adorable disturbances any animal lovers working or studying from home would approve of.
