New COVID-19 deaths on 27th March

Malaysia may be pulling all stops to halt the spread of COVID-19, but in the process, more cases are being uncovered each day. As of 6PM, 27th March 2020, Malaysia has recorded 3 more deaths and 130 new cases in the country. This brings the total death toll up to 26, and the total number of cases to 2,161.
The Ministry of Health has also identified a large spike of 88 positive COVID-19 cases in 2 townships in Kluang, Johor, causing officials to enforce an enhanced Movement Control Order (MCO) on these areas.
Total lockdown on 2 Kluang townships
In order to contain the sudden spike of cases in Kluang, the government has imposed an enhanced MCO on 2 townships: Kampung Datuk Ibrahim Majid and Bandar Baharu Datuk Ibrahim Majid.

According to The Star, residents are now required to stay indoors for 2 weeks and visitors have been barred from entering the villages. Likewise, no businesses will run during this time. Officials will also set up a medical base there to attend to the large number of COVID-19 cases.
The Ministry of Health has also stated that the cluster involved 4 individuals who attended the tabligh event at Seri Petaling. They added that they’ll be doing door-to-door checks in the area for contact tracing.

The latest COVID-19 stats also go to show that the majority of deaths involves those who’re aged 50 and above, with most patients having a history of chronic illnesses.
Meanwhile, 54 patients are in intensive care, and 44 patients have successfully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals today.
As frontliners continue to battle the virus at hotspot areas, the rest of us can do our part by simply adhering to the MCO. This way, we won’t have to expect further “total lockdowns” on more townships in Malaysia.
