Bites Dessert Bar, Kuala Lumpur

Desserts are suitable for any occasion, bad or good – from dealing with bad break ups to being the highlight of every birthday party. Even on regular days, we find ourselves tempted by the dessert section of the menu whenever we’re out for food.

So if you’re a KL-ite with a sweet tooth, you’ll find yourself right at home at Bites. The new dessert bar in Plaza Arkadia has been turning heads, and it’s not because of the “all-you-can-eat” bit. They’re the first in town to serve dessert, or any other non-sushi dishes for that matter, on conveyor belts.

So we quickly made a beeline to Plaza Arkadia to eat our fill of sweet treats that are all made from scratch. Here’s what you can expect:

Gold accent mirrors line the pink wall, making it a perfect spot to get your #OOTD shot.

Walking into Bites is like entering a cartoon dreamscape – you’re greeted with a blast of bubblegum pink walls, whimsical sailor floats, and fluffy clouds for lighting. It’s every 8-year-old girl’s dream cafe.

But hey, you won’t find us adults complaining about the Barbie dreamhouse look. If desserts are the number 1 reason why the masses are flocking over to Bites, then their IG-worthy interior is a close 2nd.

Gorge on 40 kinds of desserts made in-house

As you’re walking to your seat, you’ll catch a glimpse of the little treats gliding along the conveyor belt. The petite sizes will remind you of the dessert spread from a 5-star hotel’s buffet. And these ones aren’t all too different since the patissier was the former head chef of the swanky Grand Hyatt hotel.

The plates of desserts took up the entire table, and there were plenty more on the conveyor belts that we never got to try.

But unlike the usual buffet spreads where there are about 15 options tops, Bites prepares over 40 kinds of desserts daily. If you find yourself becoming a regular, you’ll be pleased to know that they have a different rotation each day.

We couldn’t try all 40 desserts, but we still managed to have a pretty indulgent feast. Here’s what we liked most:

Cheesecakes galore

Cheesecakes – be it the classic New York-style or the trendy burnt cheesecake – are always a welcomed addition to any menu.

No Baked Cheesecake
Pastel seashells and pearls are buried in a pile of sweet cookie crumbs on the plate, mimicking the golden beaches we vacation to.

Here at Bites, we tried 3 renditions, starting with the No Baked Cheesecake, which has already gained IG fame for its pastel mermaid tail dusted with gold shimmer.

The Strawberry Cheesecake and New York-style Berry Cheesecake are top favourites

The Strawberry Cheesecake also caught our eye from the start. Behind the ring of freshly sliced strawberries is a pudding-like cake that has a refreshing tang. The Berry Cheesecake is another winner in our books for its rich and thick filling. It’s paired with a crumbly biscuit base that melts in your mouth to uncover the fragrant buttery notes.

5-star cakes and homemade ice-cream

Hazelnut Mousse and Biscoff Cake

If your default order for dessert always includes something with chocolate, then you’ll love the Hazelnut Mousse. Cut through the glossy dome to reveal the layers of dark and milk chocolate for a sinful mouthful.

The Biscoff Cake is a must-try for the unique Biscoff biscuit sauce. It’s just as addictive as caramel, but with an added nuttiness and a subtle hint of spice.

Ice-cream
There is a topping station by the ice-cream chiller, where you’re free to throw in some gummies or cereal.

Those seeking reprise from the hot weather outside can indulge in homemade ice-cream which is also free-flow. The Peach Yoghurt and Peanut Butter are 2 flavours that won’t disappoint as the peach reminded us of Korean gummies and the peanut butter was extra nutty.

Win branded goodies at the claw machine

Claw machines are a common sight, but whenever we spot one in the mall, you can bet that most of us will be dragging our baes over for a game. You’ll immediately notice the lack of soft toys in Bites’ resident claw machine. Instead, you’ll be able to make out words like “Furla” and “Louis Vuitton”.

There’s a little ribbon of paper in each capsule which reveals which branded good you’ll be heading home with

Customers each get a token to try their luck at the claw machine when they come in for the all-you-can-eat buffet.

The best part is that no one will give you the side-eye for indulging in a desserts-only feast.
