Mosque in PJ gives out free food for all in M'sia

Stories of good deeds and humour have been sneaking its way into COVID-19 and Movement Control Order (MCO) updates in Malaysia. And it’s the silver lining in these unprecedented times that’s keeping our hopes up while staying at home. 

In another show of good deeds during MCO, Masjid Al Islamiah in Kampung Lindungan, Petaling Jaya has been giving free groceries to those living nearby. And photos that show even non-Muslims receiving food from the mosque has been winning over the hearts of Malaysians. 


A helping hand shown to all in need

In an effort to help out those most affected by COVID-19 during MCO, Masjid Al-Islamiah began giving out free grocery items to those living in Kampung Lindungan. The items include eggs, rice, and chicken and they’ve been doing this for several days a week now. 

These items, donated by NGOs and the public, were passed on to many residents in the B40 category who live in apartments nearby, and are no longer receiving a paycheck.

According to Free Malaysia Today, a spokesperson of the mosque can be quoted saying that the crowds were made up of 40% non-Muslims. And they were welcomed at the mosque regardless of their religion, as it’s in line with Islamic principles to help out all in need.

The responses to a particular photo that Masjid Al-Islamiah posted on Facebook, which showed diverse Malaysians receiving free food from them, drew the attention of many netizens online. 

With over 3,000 shares and 360 comments, many came out to applaud the unity on display, calling it Malaysia in a nutshell with a helping hand shown to all regardless of race or religion.
