The Acre in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, is a newly-opened attraction with a farm-to-table restaurant located on its picturesque grounds. Around the restaurant, there are plenty of fun activities to check out after a meal, including a petting zoo, tractor rides, and photo spots.

Patrons can dine at tables under an open-air structure with canvas awnings, or by the grassy lawn on picnic mats, at the restaurant. But a highlight here that families won’t want to miss is the mini petting zoo, where you can hang out with various farm animals, such as cows, rabbits, and deer.

There are free tractor and barrel rides for those who have dined at The Acre too. You can hop on these rides to tour the expansive grounds of the farm and catch postcard views.

2. Feel the adrenaline rush at Windlab Indoor Skydiving

When it comes to skydiving, most people would instantly think of the adventurous sport as one that’s not suitable for families with young children. But Windlab Indoor Skydiving at 1 Utama Shopping Centre might just change the way you look at the sport.

This indoor skydive centre is suitable for all ages, with kids as young as 3 years old able to try this activity out. So, children and senior citizens alike can experience the adrenaline-rush adventure of flying in the air without jumping off a plane or tall building – think Superman

At Windlab, you can experience flying inside a vertical wind tunnel, a technology that’s been used for years for training by the military and professional skydivers.

The flight chamber is covered by glass, and has wind speeds of up to 250km/h. It’s completely safe for anyone to attempt the sport, as you’re given a helmet, goggles, padded flight suit, and earplugs.

You’ll also be accompanied by a trained professional during your flight.

You’ll need to make early reservations online for guaranteed availability, as indoor skydiving is becoming increasingly popular among locals. Beginners will be given a training class before attempting the activity, guided by an instructor.

Flights start from RM99 per pax, with two flights included. Each flight lasts 50 seconds long, but the whole experience will last around two hours.

3. Sing your heart out at Karaoke Manekineko

If you’re a family of passionate singers, you can take your singing sessions to Karaoke Manekineko. This karaoke chain from Japan has family-friendly karaoke rooms for you to sing along to your favourite songs, from just RM15/pax for two hours. Kids below 90cm get to enter for free too.

4. Be amazed by magical neon lights at Putrajaya Secret Garden

For those with little ones who get excited about twinkling lights, Putrajaya Secret Garden is a glittering new attraction located at Taman Putra Perdana in Putrajaya. The garden is a spectacle of beautiful neon lights draped and wrapped around the trees that will appeal to your sense of wonder – no matter how old you are.

The garden is open to the public, and entry is completely free of charge, so you don’t need to think so much about forking out money for the whole family to visit such a magical-looking place.

Besides the neon-lit trees that simulate bioluminescent colours, the entire garden comes alive at night, emanating vibrant colours and dazzling glows. There are various photo spots in the garden too, including gleaming sculptures in the shape of dinosaurs that you and your kiddos will want to check out and take a ton of pictures with.

5. Buy books & dine on Japanese food at BookXcess

Maybe outdoor activities aren’t your cup of tea when it comes to spending time with your family. For quality bonding sessions with your indoorsy little ones, look no further than Art & Bonding in Desa Sri Hartamas, KL.

It’s a cosy art studio that lets you explore your creative side, even if you have zero painting skills or experience. The studio was founded in 2017 by Philip Chan and Stephy Lew, and has since gained popularity among people who love painting.

For the price paid per pax, you’ll be provided with a canvas, painting materials, refreshments, a pack of Hershey’s Kisses chocolate and free flow of drinks such as coffee and tea. 7. Take a break from city life at Kebun Kebun Bangsar

Cafes and malls are aplenty in the Klang Valley. But families who are looking to take a break from city life without travelling too far can head to Kebun Kebun Bangsar, an urban community vegetable farm that spans 2.5 acres in size. 

The farm grows crops that are donated to soup kitchens and the underprivileged around Kuala Lumpur, as a way to give back to the community and ensure that they too have access to fresh produce.

During your visit, you’ll see volunteers tending the gardens and even free-range animals roaming around. There are sheep, cows, chickens, and even a turkey running around the spacious garden, which provides a kampung in the city experience for little ones who need something other than a playground to keep their weekends occupied.

The farm is also sustained by volunteers and donations from people who visit the place often. So, you can consider dropping off spare change or more in their donation box to help keep them running.
